Snow Activities
Whilst our big brother Gressoney takes all the headlines and most of the tourists, Fontainemore offers a more intimate experience. Pian Coumarial, just behind La Maisonette, boasts purpose built circuits for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. All are well marked and easy to follow. There are also some idyllic routes of ski mountaineering combining wooded pathways with exposed ridges.

Weissmatten (15km) offers an international downhill piste and a great Nordic circuit. It also houses the best snow park in the area. Gressoney-La-Trinité (24 km) is replete with 171km of runs and famed throughout Europe for its off-piste. This is also a great base for those planning a trip onto the Monte Rosa Glacier. Competent skiers can visit or stay in Europe’s highest hostel the 4554m Capanna Regina Margherita or even continue on to the Matterhorn following the infamous Mezzalama route.

We also recommend a visit to another valley – Champorcher (30km) - for a completely different experience. This is a quieter yet no less dramatic option. It offers some of the best snowshoeing and ski mounteneering in the Valle d’Aosta. There is also a Nordic circuit. A trip to Lake Miserin in the snow is a must.
